Hikes in Tirol accessible by bus and train

A hiking holiday without a car is easily possible in many places in Tirol. The region has excellent connections to the Austrian and German railway networks. For example, getting to Innsbruck without a car is no problem thanks to the city's rail connections. The other towns in the Inn Valley are also served by international, national and regional trains. Seefeld in Tirol, Kitzbühel, St. Anton am Arlberg and Lienz in East Tirol, among others, are easy to reach thanks to the comprehensive regional bus network. 

There are plenty of hikes in Tirol which are accessible by public transport. Trains operated by the German railway network and the Austrian railway network give quick and easy access to many places in the region. From Innsbruck, for example, it is easy to get to the Karwendel Mountains, the Stubai Valley and the Tux Alps. Lienz and Sillian in East Tirol can also be accessed by rail. Both of these towns are good starting points for hikes in the Hohe Tauern National Park. 

There are plenty of hikes in Tirol which can be accessed without the need for a car. This includes both one-day hikes and multi-day hikes from hut to hut. Innsbruck is an excellent starting point for hikes in the Nordkette Mountains and onto the Patscherkofel peak to the south of the city. There are also buses into many of the valleys, taking keen hikers right to the place where the adventure begins. 

As well as the environmental aspect, travelling by bus or train is more relaxing – and there is no need to search for a parking space at the end of the journey. In many cases, travelling by public transport is also cheaper as holders of a guest card can often use buses and trains free of charge. As you can see, there are plenty of good reasons to give your car a holiday and use public transport on your next stay in Tirol.
