Culinary Winter Walks in Tirol

A culinary winter walk in Tirol combines food and exercise. A winter hike is a unique natural experience – the snow-covered peaks, the crystal-clear air, the crunch of snow underfoot. Many mountain huts in Tirol are also open in winter. And the food at our mountain huts is really good. It's definitely worth the effort!

Winter hikes in Tirol are a great change of pace for children. Snow simply means fun in the fresh air – on foot, with snowshoes or on a toboggan. Our well-prepared trails are safe and enjoyable. It is also important to have place to warm up and recharge your batteries. Many mountain huts and lodges in Tirol are also open in winter and serve children's favourites such as dumplings, pancakes, etc. For families with children we recommend the walks to the Wurzbergalm hut and the Vilser Alm hut as well as the Waldweg Hög forest trail.

Tirol's cuisine is as varied as its landscape – and many of the dishes served up are made using regional ingredients or even home-grown produce. Classic dishes include dumplings in different variations, hot soups and, of course, the famous Kaiserschmarrn pancakes. Many huts also have a separate children's menu. From traditional Tirolean to haute cuisine, there is something for every budget and every palate. Please be aware that many huts only accept cash payment.

Those with a taste for fine dining will find exquisite cuisine at several mountain huts. We recommend trying the winter hike on the sunny Mieming Plateau or through the Kaiserbachtal Valley as well as the circular Schönangerrunde walk.
