The Olala Street Theater Festival in Lienz is a “street performer” extravaganza attracting international world-class performers and a full range of performance styles for five days in late July.
After a virtual edition in 2020, the Olala Street Theater Festival will be back with a bang this year. Celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2021, crowds at the Olala will be introduced to genuine ‘street theater' once again. A feelgood performance of surprise and wonder awaits by “Bêtes de Foire” (‘Beasts of the fair’) with their “Petit théâtre de gestes”, an intimate French circus full of charm, invention and fantasy, where artistry, puppetry and object theatre combine in an endearing spectacle. More highlights include performances by Canadian LED Hula Hoop artist Satya Bella, Austrian artist Michael Zandl presenting his “Mimicry” program and the “Man”. The latter is an amazing display of Parer Studio from Australia. Auguste Rodin’s “Thinker” is famous for celebrating man for his/her perfect physicality and is often used as an image to represent man’s pursuit of intellectual thought and philosophy. “Man” is a contemporised version, a large-scale art installation that provokes a sense of wonder whilst raising questions about our relationship with the natural world.
Featuring the hilarious, wacky, and breathtaking entertainment that can only be found at the annual Olala Festival, crowds are treated to mind blowing shows from top street performance artists as they showcase their unique talents and skills with contemporary street theater, acrobatics, music, visual arts, comedy, light and fire displays, exhilarating walk acts, and so much more.
