City Museum Through its special exhibitions, the Innsbruck City Museum offers a variety of perspectives on the city’s history. The multifaceted life of the city throughout different eras is authentically conveyed through the collections of the City Archives. The close connection between the museum and the archives is one of this institution’s strengths. Information on current exhibitions can be found on the website. The museum is fully equipped for readings, presentations, and events and can be rented for private functions.

The City Archives
document the history of Innsbruck from its beginnings to the present day. The oldest municipal document is the confirmation of the city charter from 1239. Paintings, prints, posters, flyers, maps, estates of notable figures, ordinances, and numerous special collections round out the archives’ holdings. Of particular significance is the photo collection, comprising approximately 100,000 images. In addition to books, the extensive library includes several hundred journals and all major regional newspapers, some dating back to the 18th century.

Accessibility information: The building is accessible to people with disabilities. The elevator is not located at the front entrance but is accessible to wheelchair users via the entrance at Herzog-Friedrich-Straße 3 (Claudiana courtyard). An accessible restroom is available.
