Attraction Frauenschuhgebiet Martinau

Elbigenalp

Take a walk through the Lech floodplains near Martinau and be amazed.

Description

Spectacularly bright lady's slipper plants line a 450-metre-long network of paths.
Not only botanists go into raptures at this beautiful sight!

Trail descriptions in the lady's slipper area
Yellow trail - Best trail at the start of flowering
White path - barrier-free (280 meters)
Red path - main path - narrow path over roots

"The shoe that comes out of the flower" - the shoe-shaped flower gives the plant this name.
This orchid is a sensitive species and loves semi-shady riparian forests. In Europe's largest contiguous area of lady's slipper,
the Lechauen near Martinau, it colonizes the water-permeable limestone gravel soil of the dry pine forest.
The rich populations of lady's slipper make this area one of the most valuable riparian forests in Central Europe.

The lady's slipper is very sensitive and highly endangered due to the plundering and destruction of its habitat.
We therefore ask all visitors to behave responsibly and considerately so that this population can be preserved and admired in the future.
The Elmen-Pfafflar and Vorderhornbach mountain rescue teams look after this treasure on a voluntary basis during the flowering period (only from mid-May to mid-June).
