Description

The shelter was built in honor of Fritz Pflaum. He is a legendary mountaineer from days gone by and a great lover of the Wilder Kaiser. Dr. Fritz Pflaum lost his life on a challenging mountain tour in the Bernese Alps on August 25, 1908. Four years after his death, on August 25, 1912, the refuge was consecrated in the midst of the Kaiser peaks and put into use. Between 1937 and 1949, the name Fritz Pflaum Hut disappeared from various maps and was replaced by the designation Griesnerkar Hut. The reason for this was that Jewish names found no place in the German Reich. After the war, the name was changed back to Fritz Pflaum Hut.

The Fritz Pflaum Hut is located in Griesner Kar at 1,865 m and is thus the highest hut in the Wilder Kaiser, accessible year-round with an AV key (fritzpflaum@alpenverein-bayerland.de).
