Romedikirche
Schloßgasse 17
6065 Thaur
Above the village of Thaur stands the idyllic Romedikirchl. Not far from it is the castle ruin. You are located in the Karwendel Nature Park. Both are accessible via numerous hiking trails. For example, one can hike directly from the Thaur parish church of the Assumption of Mary along the steep Stations of the Cross with its grottos and the romantic archway to the Romedius chapel at an elevation of 793 m.Shorter paths lead from the Thaurer Alm parking lot (Langgasse) via the Adolf-Pichler-Weg first to the ruin of Thaur Castle and then further to Romediwirt or the Schlosskirchl. There is also a hiking trail from the Thaurer Stollen parking lot in Kapons that leads up to the hill. It is the calling path, which was established in 2007. The image pillars were designed by Paul Haider and cast in concrete by Fritz Lekar. The relief decorations come from the Absam artist Siegfried Obleitner. The reliefs depict Christ as the Good Shepherd, the Virgin Mary, the holy apostles Peter and Paul, and St. Romedius. A pilgrimage takes place on the first Wednesday of each month (May-October), followed by a castle mass.
