Permanent exhibition and living museum
Medieval and early modern everyday culture. Archaeologists at work with the artifacts. The objects mainly come from excavations in latrines, the garbage disposals of the Middle Ages. Together with the background images, the originals illustrate various areas of daily life about 500 years ago. The long journey from excavation find to exhibit piece is little known.

Visitors to the museum can observe the archaeologists at work with the artifacts every Wednesday and ask them about their work.

The collection currently includes about 2,300 restored objects and over 140,000 scientific evidence/found items from more than 120 excavations.

History of the museum: The museum was established in 2006. At that time, it was located in a late Gothic house in the old town (Salvatorgasse 20). Only in 2008 did the museum move to Burg Hasegg. The scientists of the city archaeology (building researcher Dipl.-Ing. Walter Hauser and city archaeologist Mag. Dr. Alexander Zanesco) researched the late Gothic building that houses the museum as part of an extensive revitalization project.
