Description:
The cross-border route presents itself as a pleasure route, except for some short steep sections. The section on the Upper Kobelweg high above the Faulenbacher Tal protected landscape area is particularly attractive with a partial circumnavigation of the legendary Alatsee. The route crosses the border into Tyrol via the Vilser Scharte. Refreshed at the Vilser Alm, known for its sunny terrace, it goes back to Füssen. The route runs mainly on forest and service roads.
Directions:The route starts from the parking lot, gently ascending on the road through the rock gorge to Bad Faulenbach. Here, turn right onto Alatsee street and after a few meters again right onto the small street "Am Kobel" steeply uphill. At the fork, follow the signposting straight on to the Upper Kobelweg. On the gravel path, continue to the next intersection – here turn left down to the paved Alatsee street (closed to motorized traffic). Upon reaching Alatsee street, follow it on the right side to Alatsee. Keep right at the lake and circle the lake about three quarters counterclockwise until the route turns right uphill towards "Vilser Scharte". Upon arriving in Vils, the route follows "Am Angerberg" street and then Georg-Schretter street. At the end, continue right, pass under the material cableway and before the stream turn right onto the gravel path. At the next opportunity, turn left over the Vils river. You immediately cross the railway line and shortly after the main road. Continue almost straight ahead and then right onto "Fallweg". This leads directly up to the parking lot of the Vilser Alm. From there, always follow the gravel road uphill to the Alm.
The return route is identical to the outbound route up to Alatsee street. From Alatsee, the route first also follows Alatsee street back, but soon turns right then left towards "Füssen West (via Burkenbichlberg)". Following the signposting over the ridge, you reach a T-junction. Here turn right onto the gravel path, which runs along the edge of the town and finally leads to the bike path on Kemptener street. Follow this to the right and shortly after reach the starting point of the route.
Tip:The idyllic Alatsee is perfect for a swimming break.
After the route, a stroll through the picturesque Old Town of Füssen is recommended.
