A stage for all those who love the combination of a challenging hike with great scenery. Today is structured like a good sports session: warm-up on gentle alpine pastures, fitness training on the steep ascent, concentration work on the steep descent and cool down on the meadow paths to the Anhalter Hütte.
Medium-difficulty stage on red mountain paths. Sure-footedness and alpine skills required for some very steep ascents and descents as well as energy-sapping scree fields. Very good physical condition required.
Route description: At the Lorea hut, follow the signs for "Loreakopf" and hike gently uphill on the path across alpine pastures. At the next fork in the trail, turn left ("Loreakopf"), often through scree and steeply up to the Loreascharte. On the other side, take the path through a grassy slope and descend rapidly into the Heimbach valley. At the bottom of the valley, keep left towards "Nassereith". Now a narrow path leads next to the stream (in one passage directly in the stream bed) slightly descending out of the valley.
At the point where the valley makes a clearly visible right-hand bend, switch to the orographic right-hand side of the stream (don't overlook the markings on the rock on the right!). From now on, the path leads into the forest and in a south-westerly direction down into the Tegestal valley to the forest road (junction at around 1,400 meters). Now continue comfortably uphill into the valley, past the turn-off to the Heiterwandhütte (left) - always staying in the gentle Tegestal valley. Into the alpine pasture area and comfortably up to the Schweinsteinjoch (1,564 meters, here the route branches off to Sinnesbrunn). From the pass, continue in the same direction gently down through the alpine pasture area to the Hintere Tarrentonalm (1,519 meters).
At the mountain pasture, follow the signs for "Anhalter Hütte" and take the wide forest path gently uphill. At the fork in the path a little later, keep left and hike along the stream. The route leads past the sheep hut and turns into a path. Now follow the path or path tracks in the open terrain below the Heiterwand, mostly ascending leisurely to the Hinterbergjoch (2,202 meters). From the Hinterbergjoch, descend over a steep grassy slope ("Schwarze Erde") and cross the cirque almost flat over to the Kromsattel (trail). From the Kromsattel, descend slightly through meadows and alpine pastures to the Anhalter Hütte.
