The only thing that hurts about this black eye is that you have to return home from the Taubensee at some point. An all-round recommendable year-round tour in the north-east of Tyrol.
Sun-drenched hike through the alpine pastures north of Kössen with a lovely, pre-Alpine character. A tour full of highlights: the Taubenseehütte in a panoramic location (open all year round), the Taubensee, the "blue eye of the Chiemgau", the extension via the inconspicuous Sonnwendköpfl and other rustic refreshment stops on the way back (Frankenalm, Rinderbrachalm). Beautiful views of the Wilder Kaiser and the Loferer Steinberge. An easy hike that can be shortened by starting at the Schafflerhof.
Gravel road, asphalt
The hike starts at the information office in Kössen, passes through the town center, and climbs along the Mühlbergweg to the Hohe Brücke. From there, the trail branches off and leads uphill through a wooded area, rejoining the Mühlbergweg. Continue to the left; after a few meters, you’ll pass the Praschhof and arrive in front of the Schafflerhof (if you start the hike here, there is parking available). Continue past the Rinderbrachalm to the Frankenalm (a working alpine hut). From here, proceed to just before the Dichtleralm, where the trail branches off to the left. The trail climbs steeply along a forest path, past the Sauermöseralm, to the Sonnwendköpfl. From there, continue on to Lake Taubensee and the Taubensee Hut. Right at the Taubenseehütte, the trail heads back toward the Schafflerhof, and you follow the same path back to the starting point.
