Chalet Friedlach: An ode to wood

Its location high up on the mountainside means that the Chalet Friedlach is bathed in warm sunshine into the evening before the sun finally disappears behind the peaks of the Zillertal Alps. This rustic yet modern accommodation combines the simple life of centuries past with all the latest technology.

The Chalet Friedlach was built relatively recently by owner Hansjörg Schweiberer but remains faithful to the traditional wooden design found almost everywhere in Tirol. Spruce, seasoned timber and sweet smelling pine are the three main materials. At the same time guests staying here will find modern luxuries such as a coffee machine and wireless internet as well as four televisions and two modern bathrooms. The Chalet Friedlach sleeps up to eight people, with children having a separate loft sleeping area accessible via a ladder.

As such, this farm in the pretty Zillertal Valley is the ideal place for those who want to spend a holiday on their own – not least thanks to its secluded location in Gerlosberg, set apart from the Schösserhof run by Hansjörg Schweiberer’s parents. Children will love the friendly farmyard animals including goats, ponies, rabbits and chickens, while according to Hansjörg many adults are drawn by the schnapps recipes passed down to him by his grandmother. Masterwort, balm, gentian and pine are just four of the many natural ingredients transformed into delicious liqueur and schnapps in the farm’s own small distillery. Cheers to that!
