Silz

Silz enjoys a sunny location in a wide section of the Upper Inntal Valley. Home to almost 2,600 residents, it has been the site of a settlement for over 1,000 years.

Evidence of this long history can be found at the hilltop St. Petersberg fortress, today home to a Catholic order. Silz is well connected to the rest of the Inntal Valley and beyond thanks to the Arlbergbahn railway and the Inntalautobahn motorway. Yet, at the same time, the village enjoys an idyllic location surrounded by lush meadows and high mountains. Among the most beautiful attractions in the surrounding landscape is the Silzer Innau, a moorland forest covering an area of more than 80km² to the west of Silz. In summer there is a wide range of via ferrata fixed-rope rock climbing routes, hiking trails and cycle paths. Thanks to Silz’s proximity to the Inn, watersports such as rafting and canyoning are particularly popular. Adrenaline junkies should check out Area 47 in the neighbouring village of Ötztal-Bahnhof. This extreme sports adventure park has many attractions including a swimming lake with a wakeboard course and several waterslides. In winter, skiers head to the nearby resort in Kühtai, while cross-country skiing enthusiasts can choose from a range of trails in and around Silz.
