Gleirsch Gorge

Scharnitz

Renowned as one of the most pristine places of Karwendel Mountain Range, Gleirsch Gorge showcases some of Tirol’s best scenery. The walkway follows crystal-clear waters as it tumbles over rocks and boulders through the steep-sided gorge, rich in natural beauty. The most common way to get to the gorge is to hike out to it from Scharnitz on Isarsteig Path. Along the way there are trailside benches and information signs describing local geology, flora and fauna, making this a very memorable walk. The boardwalk crosses various bridges and passes perpendicular rock faces as it traverses the gorge. The walk has permanently fixed cables for protection and should only be attempted by those who are physically fit, sure footed and feel comfortable on unstable ground. The walk passes Oberbrunnalm and Hochwald with the loop bringing you back to Scharnitz. The Gleirsch Gorge walkway takes about 3.5 hours to complete.
