Nassereith Carnival Museum

Nassereith

The famous Nassereith Schellerlaufen Parade is one of the most important carnival parades in Tirol and was declared a “World Cultural Heritage” by UNESCO in 2012. This ancient custom, based upon the fight between the bear, representing spring, and the bear beater, symbolizing winter, is celebrated every third year. Now, visitors can experience the fascinating world of Schellerlaufen in this "gem" of a museum, the Nassereith Carnival Museum: Discover the history of the Nassereith carnival parade through special exhibitions, displays and interactive galleries. With over 450 elaborate wooden masks, surprising gems that are works of art, the museum is home to the biggest carnival mask collection of the Alpine Region. On display are as well the wonderful masks carved by Nassereith-based artist Franz Josef Kranewitter. Guided tours of the museum are available by appointment (please call +43.680.3131184 or refer to www.fasnacht-nassereith.at).
