Cattle Drive in Steeg

Steeg, 15.09.2018

Cows and calves will return from their summer grazing grounds to their winter quarters down in the valley in Steeg, where the safe homecoming is celebrated with a grand parade, culinary delicacies and entertainment at the marquee.

The coming home of the cattle for winter from Pimigalpe, Krabachalpe, Stieralpe, Vorderbockbach and Älpele is a reason for great celebration. Decked out in garlands of flowers and ribbons, the cows are expected to arrive in the valley by 11:00am.

Visitors are recommended to get there earlier, as the main street will be closed for hours. The traditional folk festival at the marquee kicks-off at 8:00pm, featuring live music by the “Zillertaler Mander”. A wonderful cowbell will be raffled among all festival visitors.
