A unique atmosphere prevails at the annual cattle drive in Kössen, when the colourfully decorated animals are herded through the village accompanied by a loud ringing of cowbells.
Taking place on September 17, 2022, the cattle drive is a wonderful Tirolean festival and an ancient rural tradition. Every year, both locals and visitors savour the unique atmosphere at the Kaiserwinkl "Almhoamfahr'n" celebrations, the traditional homecoming of the herds from the Alpine pastures to their winter quarters down in the valley. Kössen Town Band heralds the cattle drive with a parade at 10:30am, after which the colourfully decorated animals are herded through the village accompanied by a loud ringing of bells by the proud mountain farmers, herdsmen and their helpers.
In addition to the decked out animals, a historical procession makes its way through the village. Traditional farming delicacies and homemade schnapps are yet more indispensable elements of this charming festival. The event is held in all weathers.
