The Kaiserkrone Trail in Scheffau am Wilden Kaiser is a premier endurance event. Each of the five races is designed to test the limits and skills of both elite and recreational athletes.
Long and extremely challenging, with lots of elevation gain, the course of the ISF-qualified Kaiserkrone Trail is for mountain-goats and requires a combination of endurance, strength, and technique. This premier endurance race series utilizes the unique and amazingly rugged terrain of Wilder Kaiser Mountain Range. Taking place on June 29, 2024, the longest of the five routes is the Marathon Trail – finishing after 56.1 kilometers with 3,880 meters of climbing on your legs. Although not as long and tough as the event’s signature race, don’t be fooled by the shorter Kaiserkrone Sky Race (24.7K; 2,730 meters of climbing). This spectacular course includes steep slopes requiring runners to be able to stop on a dime to avoid seriously technical and jagged rocks along the narrow single track. In 2024, the Sky Race is once again part of the Sky Runner Austria Series.
Even shorter, but as well challenging are the Speed Trail (20.4K; 1,430 meters of climbing) and the Easy Trail (8.6K; 490 meters of climbing). The latter shares a scenic section along picture-postcard Hintersteinersee Lake with the Marathon Trail. Little ones can compete against each other in the Kaiserkrone Kids Trail races, with distances between 500 meters and 1.5K.
New this year is the 4.5K Kaiserkrone Vertical Race with an elevation gain of 1,030 meters. The course climbs from Wochenbrunn to Elmauer Tor.
