Walchsee and Kössen in scenic Kaiserwinkl Area take flight from January 20 to 27, 2024, with more than 50 balloons ascending and floating over the beautiful snowy mountains and valleys during the Alpine Ballooning Festival. Since balloon pilots can be pretty competitive, you’re guaranteed a good show; apart from local pros, former national champions will take to the skies. This exciting event in Kössen and Walchsee is sure to make spirits soar with special mass ascensions and spectacular balloon glows. See spectacular colours, experience the thrill of assisting the pilots, or simply view as a spectator. Balloon rides are available by advance reservation.
The Alpine Ballooning Festival is kicked-off on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at 10:00am in Kössen. Races take place alternately in Walchsee and Kössen every day. Each year a variety of concessions are available, and entertainment is provided, with the ‘Night Glowing’ and hot mulled wine party with fireworks in Kössen as undisputed highlight: In the evening of January 24, 2024, at 7:00pm, the balloons will stay fully inflated but tethered to the ground so spectators can get up-close views. Imagine rows upon rows of bulbous luminaries, dozens of feet tall, lit up from the glow of flames.
