St. Nicholas will visit the Christmas Market at Hungerburg high above Innsbruck. However, Christmas season in Tirol brings not only the bearer of gifts, but also Krampus, his darker side.
St. Nicholas takes the funicular from Innsbruck Congress up to Hungerburg, situated 300 meters above town. The lovely Christmas Market at Hungerburg is Innsbruck’s highest and boasts panoramic views of Tirol’s capital. On December 06, 2023, St. Nicholas suited in red will arrive on the market at 4:30pm with his entourage of angels to bring small gifts to the children. He will ring his bell and invite children to board a sleigh for a leisurely ride around the market. Later, the darker side of St. Nicholas, Krampus, will appear to mete out punishments for misdeeds of the past year. Large, foreboding, black-clad and antlers on his head, devilish Krampus figures from the village of Haiming will roam the streets. The spectacle begins at 5:30pm on the car park of Seegrube Gondola.
