This event is really about the schnapps — and tasting it in local distilleries: Get a first-hand look at the art and science of crafting finest plum brandy and learn about the rich history and proud tradition of the Stanz signature spirit.
Taking place on September 01, 2019 as of 09:30am, this celebration of distilling goes right to the source, taking place where much of Tirol’s schnapps and fruit brandy is made — in Stanz. High above the small town of Landeck, the sunny upland plateau of Stanz creates the ideal conditions for growing sweet fruit. For centuries, their chief specialty has been plum, which is delicious made into brandy and liquor. Plum brandy is pure, delicate, unflavoured schnapps, handmade in small batches from the wonderful plum, the very essence of Stanz. Sample the wares of numerous distilleries and meet local distillers and plum growers: The quintessential mountain village main street of Stanz bustles with fun during the annual “Stanz brennt” event (literally ‘Stanz is burning’, which means distilling), including live music and dance, an arts-and-crafts fair and a farmer’s market and food vendors. Taste the crème de la crème of epicurean delights at this hugely popular event—ripe, jammed, stewed, pummelled into chutney or put into a pie, the plump, succulent plum of Stanz is as versatile as they come. The fruit is wonderful in jams, jellies and cakes, dumplings. And, of course, you’ll also have the chance to tour distilleries around the village. During the event, the new Plum Queen is crowned.
