The best place to enjoy the summer solstice in Wildschönau is Markbachjoch: Its top offers majestic views of the surrounding peaks, where fires are lit to mark the longest day of the year.
On June 22, 2024, Markbachjochbahn Gondola whisks visitors from the base in Niederau up high into the mountains to an elevation of 1,500 meters above sea level, where a large campfire provides plenty of warmth. From the top of the gondola there are fabulous views of the many summer solstice fires lit in the Kitzbühel and Zillertal Alps and, on clear evenings, even as far as the Rofan Mountains. There is live music at Markbachjochalm, Rübezahlhütte and Norderbergalm on-mountain restaurants as well as a fine selection of traditional food. Summer solstice gondola rides are in operation until 11:00pm.
