The start of the ski season in Tirol is normally marked by lots of parties and concerts. However, the coronavirus pandemic means that 2020 will be a little different. Nevertheless, the region's ski resorts have come up with plenty of great ideas to celebrating the opening of the ski season in suitably extravagant fashion.
Important! Due to the current Covid-19 situation and the measures in place to restrict the spread of the coronavirus, events may be changed or cancelled at short notice.
The FIS Ski World Cup will begin as always in late October in Sölden, where the world's top male and female skiers will compete. Fans will not be allowed to line the courses as usual, but the action will be broadcast live on large screens in the resort. This is the first time that the traditional World Cup opening will have to be held without fans. Things will be much the same as usual at the opening of the Kaunertal Glacier and the Stubai Glacier, where skiers and snowboarders can try out this season's latest equipment at the test centres, hit the snowpark and enjoy a number of side events. Last but certainly not least, the start of the ski season in Wildschönau will be celebrated with a series of events focusing on food, nature and relaxation.
