Bike Trail Tirol Stage 07: Scharnitz - Achensee

A very difficult and demanding tour that requires mountain biking experience, enough stamina and a good physical shape. Covering 60 kilometers and 1850 meters altitude gain, this stage ranks among the longest and most challenging ones of the entire Bike Trail Tirol. It travels past Karwendel's magnificent alpine landscapes: steep rock faces, precipitous walls, verdant meadows and deep green forests await you.

  • Alpenpark Karwendel is a deeply rooted nature and landscape preservation area with varied wonderful biking routes. The mountain massif itself is one of the Northern Alps' most pristine regions.
  • The main route is renowned among passionate mountain bikers, leading through Karwendel Valley and via Hochalm Saddle to Eng, across Plumsjoch Ridge down to Gerntal Valley. Long and strenuous climbs up to alpine passes and speedy downhill sections add to a memorable day for expert bikers.
  • Please note: one of the most important factors on this stage is the weather forecast as the tour is suitable only in good weather.
  • At the very end of the stage you can enjoy a wonderful ride with the area's oldest steam cog railway from the northern end of Achensee Lake to Maurach - the railway carriages and locomotives of historical Achenseebahn are over 100 years old.
