Buggy-Friendly Walk: Alpengasthof Loas

This walk high above the town of Schwaz in the Tirolean Unterland offers fabulous views of the Gilfert, Kellerjoch and – for parents willing to push the buggy up onto the Loas-Sattel ridge – even the Zillertal Valley as far as the village of Hochfügen.

The trail, which is mostly slightly uphill but has a few steeper sections, leads through forests and meadows to the Gasthof Loas. The length can be adapted to suit the fitness and ambition level of the walkers - there are a number of car parks along the way, so you can drive as far as you want and then leave the car there. The Gasthof Loas is a traditional wooden guesthouse in the mountains famed for its huge "Loas-Schnitzel" and sweet pastries. The same trail is used in winter as a family-friendly toboggan run.

Trail description

From the town of Schwaz, drive up to Pillberg and follow the winding road towards Hotel Grafenast. A large sign marks the first car park, where the walk to the hut begins. Walkers who decide to leave the car here take route 412 through the forest to the next car park. This is at the "Naunz-Almen". On cooler days we recommend driving to this second car park (via a toll road) and avoiding the shady section of the walk. From the car park it is about one hour to the Alpengasthof Loas. Parents with energy to burn can walk the ten minutes along the slightly steeper road to the Loas-Sattel ridge, which offers fine views of the Zillertal Valley. Return along the same route back to the starting point.
