Crossing scenic Oberbergtal Valley, a side valley of Inner Stubai Valley, this is a rewarding snowshoe trek for those willing to put in the effort. You’ll find sweeping panoramic views at the highest elevation of this loop tour, but those come only after gaining roughly 550 meters over 3.5 kilometers. To endure the 2.5 steadily uphill hours, you are strongly recommended to gather new strength over hearty delicacies served at Auffangalm and Brandstattalm. Rent a sled from quaint and rustic Brandstattalm Lodge for an exhilarating way back down along the natural sledding track—giving you the reward you earned for the climb.

Trail description
The trail starts at the “Josef” Car Park in Oberbergtal Valley and follows the natural sledding track toward Auffangalm Lodge. From here, leave the track and walk in a western direction where you can experience winter wonderland and the tranquility of the backcountry. The route (No. 572) is tucked in a beautiful forest that is especially enchanting here with a fresh coat of snow and the teasing glimpses of the mountains through the pines will lure you to the top where even better sights await. Once you leave the forested area behind, the views open up, giving you the first glimpse of the snowshoe’s destination, a tiny hunter’s lodge. Up there, catch your breath and scan the horizon. You will find breathtaking vistas in all directions. How many of the summits can you identify? From this viewpoint, which is as well the highest point on this walk, retrace your steps back to the car park. Heading down you are strongly recommended to stop by quaint and rustic Brandstattalm to warm up. From there, follow the natural sledding track to get back down to the trailhead. Or, rent a sled from Brandstattalm Lodge for an exhilarating way back down. The way up to the viewpoint involves roughly 2.5 hours of climbing.
