Snowshoe Walk

Snowshoe walkers embarking on this adventure can look forward to fine views of the village of Hochfilzen as well as the Leogang Rocky Mountains and the Wildseeloder peak. The walk itself is relatively short and leads to the Hoametzlhütte, a charming mountain hut on the south-eastern slopes of the Buchensteinwand mountain within the ski resort there. The route up is used by both snowshoe walkers and tobogganers, so if you want to you can walk up and then zoom back down! Toboggans can be hired from the hut at the top.

Trail description

The starting point of this snowshoe walk is the car park at the bottom of the draglift in Hochfilzen. The route up to the Hoametzlhütte hut leads uphill along the toboggan run, which is kept in good condition throughout the winter. Please be aware that as you walk up you may encounter tobogganers coming down. On the last section there is the option to switch to the outer edge of the ski slope and walk up there instead. When you arrive at the hut, you should first enjoy the view of the surrounding mountains before heading inside to warm up. Descend along the same route - either on snowshoes or using a toboggan, which can be hired from the hut.
