Travelling to Tirol by car

• Speed limits: The speed limit is 50 km/h in built-up areas, 100 km/h on open roads and 130 km/h on motorways.
• Mandatory car equipment: First-aid kit, warning triangle and high-visibility waistcoat must be carried in the car. They are required in the event of an accident or breakdown. It is advisable to always have them to hand in order to be prepared for any situation.
• Child seatbelts: Children up to 14 years of age and smaller than 1.35 metres require appropriate restraint systems in the vehicle to ensure their safety.
• Blood alcohol limit: The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 per mille. Drinking and driving can lead to serious consequences and should therefore be strictly avoided.
• Mandatory winter equipment: Winter equipment is mandatory from 1 November to 15 April. Winter tyres are necessary to drive safely through snow and ice.
• Lights during the day: Lights are mandatory for motorbikes all year round in order to be seen better and increase safety.
• Safety vests: Drivers of cars, lorries, buses, etc. must carry a safety vest in order to be clearly visible in the event of a breakdown or accident.

Yes. A toll sticker ("Vignette") is mandatory on motorways in Austria. These are available online, at Asfinag sales points, viat the German automobile club ADAC or via the Austrian autombile club ÖAMTC, as well as from petrol stations and at border crossings.
