Remarkable Kufstein Fortress dominates the landscape of Kufstein as much today, as it did centuries ago.
Being Kufstein’s most famous sight, the fortress towers high above town and is definitely worth visiting. The fortress was first mentioned in historical documents in the year 1205. In 1504 the town and the fortress were besieged and conquered by Emperor Maximilian I. Today, Kufstein Fortress serves as extraordinary venue for a variety of events, including the annual Operetta Summer. The Fortress can be accessed by a spectacular panorama gondola. Fortress attractions include the world’s largest outdoor organ at the tower, named the “Heroes’ Organ”. The organ is played daily to honour the war dead and to remind of peace.
