Attraction Fernsteinsee Ruine Sigmundsburg

Fernsteinsee Ruine Sigmundsburg

Description

In the middle of Lake Fernstein, on a small wooded island, lie the remains of the ruin Sigmundsburg. The castle was built in 1462 by Duke Sigmund the Coinrich as a hunting lodge and retreat. His wife, Eleonore of Scotland, loved this place as it reminded her of her homeland.

After Sigmund's death in 1496, the castle lost its significance and fell into decay over time. Today, only ruins remain, which blend picturesque into the landscape. Access is via a narrow bridge and a steep path – a small adventure trip into the past.
