Description

The late Gothic church from 1456 (the tower is even older) is one of the cultural highlights in Osttirol and an important destination for pilgrims and tourists. Situated in the Virgen district of Obermauern at 1,300 metres above sea level, the church is nestled amongst rustic farmhouses. Inside the church, the magnificent, colourful frescoes by Simon von Taisten, which adorn the walls of the church, immediately catch the eye.

The church can be reached on foot from Virgen via the Way of the Cross (walking time approx. 25 min.), from the car park (walking time approx. 5 min.) or from the Obermauern bus stop (walking time approx. 5 min.). There is barrier-free access on the northern side of the inner courtyard.

The church is always open during the day.
In the summer months there is a guided tour of the church every Friday at 17.00. Other times are also available on request.
