The Elberfeld Hut at 2,346 m is located at the end of the Gössnitz Valley in the Schober Group and lies in the core zone of the Hohe Tauern National Park. The uninhabited Gössnitz Valley is considered one of the most pristine and least altered valleys in the Eastern Alps. The hut is situated in a magnificent, high alpine peak arena. It is surrounded by about 30 three-thousand-meter peaks such as Roter Knopf, Böses Weibl, the Talleiten Peaks, the two Horn Peaks, Kristallkopf, Gössnitzkopf, etc. The Elberfeld Hut is a stopping point on the Wiener Höhenweg and lies on paths that require basic alpine experience and physical fitness.
