Description
The cozy Hämmermoosalm (1,417m) is beautifully located at the beginning of the Gaistal, is managed year-round, and is easily accessible for families. You can reach the hut via a wide gravel path (which serves as a toboggan run in winter) or the bike-free, albeit slightly steeper, Ganghoferweg.
At the hut, four dining rooms offer plenty of space to enjoy, and private celebrations can also be arranged upon request. During the summer months, however, you can of course sit on the spacious sun terrace, admiring the mountain panorama in the shade of wide umbrellas.
In summer, from May to October, numerous hikes and bike tours tempt you into the picturesque Wetterstein mountains, but children will also find many exciting adventures at the Alm playground around the hut. The E-bike can be charged at the hut, but you must bring your own charger.
To this day, the Hämmermoosalm is operated as an active alpine business – special consideration must be given to grazing livestock. During the winter season, from December to March, a family-friendly natural toboggan run also leads from the hut down to the valley.
STARTING POINT
The Hämmermoosalm can be easily and quickly reached via different routes: by car from the Saltzbach parking lot in the Gaistal, while public transport travelers start the hike from the bus stop "Leutasch Salzbach." Adventurers and connoisseurs can also conveniently reach the hut by horse-drawn carriage.
SUMMER TOURS
- Family-friendly hike & bike tour to the hut. The hut is accessible from the Saltzbach parking lot in the Gaistal in less than one hour via the signposted forest path. The slightly steeper ascent can also be managed with a stroller, and E-bikers will reach the Hämmermoosalm this way in about 15 minutes. Alternatively, the historical Ganghofersteig leads from the parking lot to the alpine hut in about 40 minutes. Lockable, sheltered, and charging options for E-bikes are available at the top, but you must bring your own charger.

- Round hiking trail. The medium-difficulty round hike takes about four hours in total and leads over picturesque viewpoints for ten kilometers and two alms through the scenic Wetterstein mountains. From the paid parking lot Stupfer in the Leutascher Gaistal, the route is well marked and initially goes steeply uphill for 400 meters until reaching a comfortable forest road that follows past the Wangalm (1,751m). Just below the Wangalm (at the former Wettersteinhütte), you will go over the "Wurziger Steig" to the rustic Hämmermoosalm (1,417m) for a stop. After a well-deserved refreshment, you will return to the parking lot Stupfer in the Gaistal.

- Ganghoferweg Leutasch. The famous Ganghoferweg leads in the Gaistal from the Saltzbach parking lot over nine kilometers comfortably through the Hämmermoos and Gaistalalm to Tillfussalm (1,382m). Since the descent takes the same route back, you can already consider where to take a break on the way back – there are plenty of delicious opportunities along the approximately three-hour pleasure hike.

WINTER TOURS
- Winter hiking trail. The short and family-friendly winter hike can be taken either from the info station at the entrance to the Gaistal, upstream along the Leutascher Ache to the signpost for Hämmermoosalm, or from the last (paid) hiking parking lot at Salzbach (P5) directly to the hut ascent. The route can also be used for sledding on the way back, so if you like, bring your sled along.
To the hike - Sledding. In the heavily snow-covered winter months, sledding enthusiasts can reach the picturesque Hämmermoosalm on wide, cleared paths directly from the Saltzbach parking lot. The two-kilometer descent is freshly groomed on mornings with fresh snowfall, guaranteeing optimal conditions for sledding fans of all ages.
