Original alpine hut with sleeping accommodations in the wildly romantic Wetterstein mountains.

Description

The small Wangalm in the Gaistal below the Gehrenspitze captivates with its original cosiness and authentic alpine economy at 1,751 metres above sea level. From mid-May to mid-October, hostess Martina Klotz serves hungry hikers and (e-)bikers hearty Tyrolean delicacies and cool refreshments on the sun terrace or in the wood-panelled guest room. When the summer evenings get long and cosy, you can spend the night at the Wangalm in two- to four-bed rooms or a traditional bed camp. A playground and lush alpine meadows with numerous sheep, cattle and horses await big and small children upstairs, while climbing enthusiasts can climb varied routes in the rock not far away.

OVERNIGHT STAY
During the warm summer months, up to 38 people can stay overnight at the authentic refuge. A traditional mattress dormitory for 21 people as well as two four-bed rooms and one double room are available as alpine sleeping facilities. A hut sleeping bag is a prerequisite for the night's lodging, so please book in good time.

STARTING POINT
The Wangalm is only a short distance from the Wettersteinhütte and also shares well-signposted ascent routes: From the Stupfer car park, for which a charge is made, or the Leutasch Salzbach/Gaistal regional bus stop, you can reach the charming alpine hut either on foot via steep steep paths and forest tracks or by (e-)bike via a newly developed cycling route in a sporty and challenging manner.


SUMMER TOURS

• Circular hike. Medium-difficulty alpine pasture circuit in the Wetterstein mountains. Short, steep ascent from the Stupfer car park to the forest road, then leisurely to the Wangalm and Wettersteinhütte. Continue via the "Wurziger Steig" to the Hämmermoosalm and from there down into the valley.

• Bike tour Wangalm & Wettersteinhütte. Short and strenuous bike tour from the Stupfer car park in Gaistal over wide gravel paths to just below the Wangalm and Wettersteinhütte. The last hundred steep metres to the hut are better done on foot, as the path becomes rough and difficult to negotiate. After about ten minutes of sweaty walking, you can choose between the two alpine pastures with their fantastic distant views.

• High pasture alpine hike. Extensive hike across a total of six beautiful alpine pastures in the Wetterstein Mountains. With a walking time of around seven hours, this is a demanding but worthwhile hike, and you can also descend to the valley early at key points along the way. From the Stupfer car park via the Wettersteinhütte, Wangalm, Rotmoosalm, the Steinerne Hüttl, the Gaistalalm to the Tillfußalm and back to the starting point via the famous Ganghoferweg.

• Gehrenspitze. Moderately difficult summit tour from Leutasch through the Puittal and over the Scharnitzjoch to the Gehrenspitze (2,367m). Descent via the Wangalm and Wettersteinhütte into the Gaistal or on the same route back to Leutasch.
