Description

The Wangalm in Gaistal below the Gehrenspitze impresses with original coziness and an authentic alpine economy at an altitude of 1,751 meters above sea level. From early June to mid-October, hungry hikers and (E-)bikers can enjoy hearty Tyrolean delicacies and cool refreshments on the sun terrace or in the wood-paneled guest room.

Big and small children will find a playground and lush alpine meadows with numerous sheep, cattle, and horses, while climbing enthusiasts can tackle varied routes in the rocks nearby.

STARTING POINT
From the paid parking lot Stupfer or the bus stop Leutasch Salzbach/Gaistal, the charming alpine hut can be reached either via steep paths and forest roads on foot or via a newly developed bike route that is sporty and challenging with the (E-)bike.

SUMMER TOURS

  • Alpine Round Hike. Moderate alpine round in the Wetterstein Mountains. Short, steep ascent from the Stupfer parking lot to the forest road, then leisurely to the Wangalm. A bit below the Wangalm (at the former Wettersteinhütte), continue on the "Wurziger Steig" to the Hämmermoosalm and then down into the valley.

  • Bike Tour Wangalm. Short and exhausting bike tour from the Stupfer parking lot in Gaistal over wide gravel roads to just below the Wangalm. It is better to walk the last hundred steep meters to the hut, as the path becomes coarsely gravelly and difficult to ride. After about twenty minutes of sweaty walking time, you reach the Wangalm.

  • High Alpine Hike. Extensive hike over a total of five beautiful alms in the Wetterstein Mountains. With a pure walking time of about seven hours, it is challenging but worthwhile, and you can descend early at key points if needed. From the Stupfer parking lot over the Wangalm, Rotmoosalm, the Steinerne Hüttl, the Gaistalalm to the Tillfußalm, and then relax back to the starting point via the famous Ganghoferweg.
    To the hike
  • Gehrenspitze. Moderate summit tour from Leutasch through the Puittal and over the Scharnitzjoch to the Gehrenspitze (2,367m). Descent via the Wangalm into Gaistal or return on the same path to Leutasch.
