Description

From the hiking starting point at the tourist information office in Scheffau, start along the road towards Wilder Kaiser. After the 90° bend, keep right at the next junction towards the Gaisberg car park. Passing the Leitenhof, continue on a forest path through the forest. Once you reach the car park, walk right for a short distance on the asphalt road until the next junction. Here, turn sharp left onto the forest path and follow it to the Hinterschießling Alm. A fantastic view of the Scheffauer opens up here. Continue hiking uphill and then follow the path to the left towards Steiner-Hochalm. When you reach the Steiner-Niederalm, keep left on the forest path downhill towards Hintersteiner See.
Passing the Bärnstattkapelle dedicated to Saint Leonhard opposite the Gasthof Bärnstatt, you reach the Hintersteiner See. After a leisurely break, head back and turn right downhill before the Grüblerhof. Through the particularly scenic Seebachgraben and later passing the hamlets of Sonnwies and Niederscheffau, you hike back to the village centre of Scheffau.
