Going, Hüttling – Graspoint-Niederalm – Obere Regalm – Brennender Palven – Gaudeamushütte – Klamml – Gruttenhütte

Culinary delicacies and pure rock experience!

Start at the Hüttling hiking starting point in Going (820 m). Forest road 817 leads you to the Graspoint-Niederalm (981 m). Later, as trail 817, it leads you through the forest, past the Stiegenbach Waterfall and through to the turnoff, where you should take path 827 (Adlerweg trail) up to the Obere Regalm (1,313 m), which offers homemade regional specialties.

Suitably fortified, you should head uphill through the Alpine meadows on the picturesque trail 827 until you reach the Brennender Palven mountain (also known as the Baumgartenköpfl, 1,572 m). You are rewarded for having made the ascent with fantastic panoramas over the rock massif of the Wilder Kaiser in the north and over the Kitzbühel Alps and Hohe Tauern mountain range in the south. This is also the site of the famous Bergsteigergrab, which is the final resting place of the “Koasamuch”. This famous climber from the “Edelweissgilde” organisation, born Much Wieser in Scheffau in 1888, was dedicated to having summit books on all summits in the Wilder Kaiser region.

Path 824 only leads downhill and heads west to the Gaudeamushütte mountain hut (1,263 m), which offers an impressive view of the Ellmauer Tor. Hikers with tired legs, will not only find culinary delicacies to fortify themselves, but also the first option for a cozy overnight stay.

If you continue walking, you will keep following path 813/824 towards Gruttenhütte via Klamml (approx. 1.5 hours). The narrow path, which leads through the steep yet fascinating Klamml, is secured with a ladder and several iron clamps (surefootedness and a good head for heights are essential! Caution due to danger of rock falls from the via ferrata! For the moderately difficult/red mountain path no via ferrate equipment is necessary.)
At the exit, enjoy the fantastic view of the “Wildes Schloss” – an imposing rock massif that is steeped in legend and features turrets, peaks, hollows and balconies – and the eastern summit of the Wilder Kaiser.
After following a number of bends, you will reach the Gruttenhütte (1,620 m), the highest mountain hut in the Wilder Kaiser region. The hut is exposed on a rocky crest and has a beautiful sun terrace as well as a view of the Ellmauer Halt, which is the highest summit at 2,344 metres. On a clear day, you can savour wonderful views as far as to the main ridge of the Alps with the Grossglockner mountain.
