2,218 maple trees populate the Great Maple Back. The sycamore maple (lat. Acer pseudoplatanus) is the most durable and largest native maple species. A wide variety of functions are attributed to it - the theme trail signs talk about cattle feed, maple juice, wood processing and even "sauerkraut".
