Mountain hikes Schwarzachtal - Nr. 8

Gerlos, Zillertal / Zillertal Alps
Difficulty ratings: easy
Route length: 2.0 km
Duration: 1:50 h

An easy hike along a mountain stream through a secluded side valley. Marmots whistle every now and then, and soon the scent of Kaspressknödel mingles with the crisp mountain air—this is exactly how we imagine a hike through the alpine pastures!

Tour character

The hike into the Schwarzach Valley takes you into a quiet side valley in the Gerlos region of the Zillertal Alps. The trail mostly follows the Schwarzach River, sometimes through dense forest, sometimes across open valley floors with views of the alpine pastures. The hike is technically easy and runs mostly on well-maintained trails. With a normal level of fitness, you’ll have no trouble completing it. That’s why it’s also great for families and anyone who just wants to go for a relaxed walk. Those looking for a longer hike can extend the route depending on their destination or join other trails heading toward the mountains from higher up. Along the way is the Schwarzachalm snack bar (accessible with a stroller up to this point). There, you’ll find a traditional stop for regional food and a place to take a longer break. In the valley, you can still see alpine pastures and grazing land, which have long been a part of the landscape here. Typical features of this loop include the constant murmur of the stream, the alternation between forest and open sections, and the option to keep the route short or extend it depending on your mood and available time.
