Moderately difficult snowshoe hike to the Mühlberg viewpoint.
The route leads through open, unmarked terrain and is not maintained.
Good personal preparation and the right equipment are especially important for snowshoe hiking. Before starting the tour, it's essential to check the current avalanche report. Since the terrain is unmarked, downloading the GPX data for the route is recommended. Additionally, the SOS EU-ALP app, developed for mountain emergencies, is recommended.
Lightweight and stable snowshoes, adjusted to body weight. Telescopic poles for better grip and added stability. This equipment can be rented at numerous sports shops in the region.
Multiple layers of clothing, warm gloves, a hat, a waterproof jacket and pants, as well as winter hiking boots, are recommended.
The tour starts at the parking lot P4 "Mühlberg". First, you follow the former ski slope until you reach a heart-shaped viewing platform, where you’ll enjoy a lovely view over Scharnitz and the surrounding mountains.
From there, continue on the toboggan trail. Keep an eye out for sledders and other winter sports enthusiasts. If you want to use the trail as a natural toboggan run on the way back, take a sled with you to the top. When you reach Mühlberg, you’ll be rewarded with an amazing panoramic view.
The way back follows the same route down.
Take the train to Scharnitz Railway Station, then it's a 15-minute walk to the starting point at parking area P4 "Mühlberg".
