Description

The complete crossing of the ten-kilometre-long gorge, which is narrowed on the most spectacular sections of 1400-metre-high rock faces, requires a great deal of endurance, sure-footedness and mountain experience. Access to the lower area is comparatively easy: from Vomperbeg to the bottom of the gorge. This tour is particularly attractive in late autumn, when the foliage is colourful.

From Vomperberg, follow the signs to Zwerchloch and Halleranger on a forest path to the west. High above the creek Vomper Bach you go through the forest into the valley with insignificant differences in altitude. After approx. 20 minutes, just before the cut of the Stubbachgraben, the wide path becomes a narrow path. Here, healing spring water feeds a well along with an original mountaineer's shower. Shortly uphill, then through the Kühsoachgraben and to the Melansalm, which is not farmed and used as a hunting lodge. Further along the steep slope some rocky gullies are crossed before it goes right in to the hunting lodge in the Zwerchloch. Apart from the restaurant Karwendelrast at the starting point Vomperberg, there are no refreshment stops along the way.
