Description

From the ice rink (or Steinach railway station) take the Promenadenweg to the Höhenweg to Mauern. There is a shortcut from the station via a small path that zigzags directly to the Höhenweg, but this is sometimes icy in winter. Continue north along the ridgeway via Mauern, on to St. Ursula's Church and follow the road to Tienzens. It is worth taking a look at the church of St. Ulrich there; shortly before reaching Tienzens, the signposts indicate the turnoff to Puig (trail no. 36A). From Puig, follow the signs further via Mühlen to Statz - Matrei. Visit Matrei with its beautiful house facades, inns and cafés. Well refreshed, trail no. 36 leads you along the valley floor back to Steinach.
