Obernberg Valley is one of Tirol's most pristine wilderness areas. Situated in a stunning nature reserve at an elevation of 1,590 meters is picturesque Obernbergersee Lake, an aquatic jewel in a remote Alpine area. The lake provides a peaceful setting and there’s nothing more refreshing on a hot day spent in the high-altitude sun. The amazing natural beauty found here is the main reason why this is a Site of Special Natural Interest. This spectacular place is ideal for those wanting to bask in nature and absorbing the stunning scenery. There is a well-marked nature trail which leads around the sparkling lake and takes about one hour to complete. Built on the remains of a rockfall, Saint Mary's by the Lake Chapel is accessed by a boardwalk and is well worth visiting.
