Regions of Culinary Excellence

Tirol has a variety of cultural landscapes, from steep and exposed mountain slopes to gentle valleys, rivers and lakes. The country’s climate conditions give rise to superior flavour development, but most importantly, very experienced farmers help make signature Tirol crops so delicious and unique.

Several Tirol-grown, Tirol-raised and Tirol-produced items are known well beyond regional borders, such as flavourful Paznaun Alpine Cheese, tasty Oberinntal Potatoes or juicy Plums of Stanz. Across Tirol, farmers, dairymen, ranchers and distillers are cultivating a bounty of agricultural riches at ten designated “Regions of Culinary Excellence”: These areas produce highest quality fruit and vegetables, cheese, and meat; ingredients that show up on restaurant menus throughout the country, from fine dining restaurants to rustic on-mountain eateries and country inns.
