The coming home of the cattle for winter at Achensee Lake Region is a reason for three great celebrations. First, the herds are rounded up for the great cattle drive from Gramai Alpine Pasture.
After spending the summer at the wonderful Gramai Alpine Pastures at Karwendel Nature Park, the roughly 100 cows are decked out in garlands of flowers and ribbons in the early morning on September 15, 2023, before being herded down to Pertisau in the valley. The festival atmosphere begins in the morning at 11:00am with brunch (and cold beer of course), music and a farmer’s market on Gramai Alm. At midday, the journey down to the valley to Pertisau begins, where the animals and dairymen are welcomed with live music. The herds are expected to arrive in Pertisau at around 1:00pm – where music and a great atmosphere can be found in front of Karwendel Hotel. The day is rounded out with a jovial gathering on Gramai-Alm Alpine Pasture Hut.
The second celebration takes place on September 20, 2023, at Pertisau as well. Festively decked out and with bells attached to their heavy leather collars, the cattle is driven down from Falkenmoosalm Alpine Pasture Hut in Achenkirch. The parade is expected to arrive at “Das Rieser” Hotel around 1:00pm. Celebrations begin en route at 11:00am at Family Resort Buchau in Maurach.
The third and last celebration is held three days later, September 23, 2023, on the new village square of Wiesing in Inntal Valley. The local brass band will be out on the streets at 11:00am. “Jörgen Bauer” farmer will arrive with his herd at 2:00pm.
