Festively decked out and with bells attached to their heavy leather collars, the herds are rounded up for the great cattle drive from Gramai Alpine Pasture to their winter quarters down on the shores of Achensee Lake.
The coming home of the cattle for winter at Achensee Lake is a reason for great celebration. After spending the summer at the wonderful Gramai Alpine Pastures, the roughly 100 cows are decked out in garlands of flowers and ribbons in the early morning on September 16, 2022, before being herded down to Pertisau in the valley. The festival atmosphere begins in the morning at 11:00am with brunch (and cold beer of course), music and a farmer’s market on Gramai Alm. At midday, the journey down to the valley to Pertisau begins, where the animals and dairymen are welcomed with live music. The herds are expected to arrive in Pertisau at around 1:00pm – where music and a great atmosphere can be found in front of Karwendel Hotel. The day is rounded out with a jovial gathering on Gramai-Alm Alpine Pasture Hut.
