A highlight of the 2017 carnival season in Tirol will be the huge “Matschgerer Run” in Absam, a small village west of Tirol’s capital Innsbruck.
Having paused for five years, this great and joyous Shrovetide celebration and parade will return to Absam on February 12, 2017. There will be fleets of elaborately designed floats, which caricature both, regional goings-on and ancient traditions.
Thousands of locals and visitors will sing and dance on the streets, awaiting the appearance of the first carnival floats with their dazzling lights, bright colors and electrifying energy. Hundreds of villagers, dressed up as carnival characters in brilliant colors to better attract the attention of the passers-by, will appear.
