Ötztal March

Sautens, 14.09.2024

The Ötzal March is a walking event that sets off in Sautens and winds across the lower half of 65-kilometer-long Ötztal Valley. There's no racing, no timing and no pressure – just fabulous views and the pleasure of spending time in nature with like-minded people.

There's no other march in Tirol like this - and not many in Austria for that matter. This is not a trail running event. This is not a marathon. It’s something completely different. Challenge yourself over 39 or 45 kilometers across an all-surface course covering the best of the best in Ötztal Valley. Walkers can easily step up or down in race distance along the route. This event is all about experience and enjoyment rather than performance and pressure. Everyone who makes it to the finish gets a certificate and an award, but there is no timing and no ranking. Still, you will need good fitness to complete the routes with either 1,300 or 1,600 vertical meters of uphill walking. The event starts in the north of Ötztal Valley, in the village of Sautens (at "Kalkbrennanlage" event center) and leads past beautiful Piburgersee Lake, the village of Umhausen and Stuibenfall Waterfall to Längenfeld in the middle of the valley. The route is well marked and mostly leads along forested dirt trails, though there are some short sections on tarmac. Three well stocked aid stations along the course provide drinks and snacks.
