Singletrack
Holzalmtrail

High above the town of Brixlegg, at 1,425 metres above sea level, lies the Holzalm. This traditional wooden hut at the foot of the imposing Gratlspitze is a popular starting point for hikers and bikers. One of the many rides available leads from the Holzalm to the settlement of Thierbach along a 0.8km section of singletrail descending 34 metres from start to finish. The trail is suitable for riders of all abilities. Advanced riders will enjoy the roots, banked corners and jumps, though these can all be ridden round by those who prefer to keep their wheels on the ground. The trail is rated S2 to S3 on the singletrack difficulty scale.

Trail description

From the car park riders head along a gravel road across the beautiful plateau in an easterly direction towards Thierbach. At the last building take the right-hand fork in the trail and follow it for around 400 metres. Turn left and descend towards Thierbach.

While the first section entering the forest is flat, the trail soon becomes steeper and leads over a series of roots and steps that make for fun riding. There is a tricky section which advanced and experts riders will love, but those who don't (yet) fancy taking it on can get off and push. It only takes a couple of minutes to walk this section before re-mounting and continuing downhill.

The final section takes riders along a gravel trail to the village of Thierbach. Here there is the option of continuing on MTB route 340 towards Kundl / Wildschönau.

Tip! There are lots of variations available, for example using MTB route 313 from the local authority building (Gemeindeamt) in Brixlegg to the Holzalm hut. This ride starts on a tarmac road and leads from Brixlegg to Zimmermoos, past the Schwarzenbergkapelle chapel and then along a gravel road to the Holzalm hut.
