Mountain Walk
Leutaschtal Valley

Leading along the foot of the mighty Wetterstein Mountains, this easy and generally flat walk showcases the best of the Leutaschtal Valley with its lush green meadows and thick pine forests. Some sections of the 17-kilometre-long route starting in Weidach pass along the banks of the Leutascher Ache river, with plenty of forest to keep you cool on warm days. The hike ends at the entrance to the Leutasch Ghost Gorge, which is open to the public from early May until the end of October. Those with energy left can take one of the three trails into the gorge.

Trail description

This walk begins at the car park located north of Weidach, at the entrance to the Satteltal Valley (in the settlements of Emmat and Ahrn). It leads along trail number 5 ("Achweg") on the banks of the Leutascher Ache river in a northerly direction. Much of the route is on the edge of the forest. The only section which heads into the middle of the valley is next to the campsite in Reindlau, where both the river and the trail meander away from the forest. From the Gasthof Mühle building, the final kilometre is along the road before reaching the entrance to the Leutasch Ghost Gorge. The nearby Klammstüberl hut is a good place to stop for a rest.

Return along the same route. Alternatively, you can continue along the road for a while after passing the Gasthof Mühle and, after reaching the parish church in Unterkirchen, turn left and head through the meadows and over the river back onto the Achweg trail.
