Description

Long and challenging tour — but absolutely rewarding in terms of scenery.

The route starts at the Nature Park Information Centre in Scharnitz or at parking area P2 and follows a low-traffic paved municipal road for the first 1.5 km. Just before the Isarlodge Wiesenhof, the well-rideable forest road begins straight ahead over the Gleirschhöhe to the junction into the Gleirschtal after about 4.5 km.

After a short descent and crossing the Isar, the climb begins — the so-called “Krapfen”. This is the first section of the tour that requires endurance and fitness. Once you reach the Gleirschtal ridge, the route passes beautiful alpine meadows and continues to a fork towards Möslalm.

At the next fork, you can choose between continuing directly or taking the right-hand path, which leads to the Möslalm after a short, steep climb.

From the Möslalm, a difficult ascent begins on partly coarse gravel through the wild and romantic high-alpine Samertal valley in the Karwendel Nature Park. Due to the rough gravel surface, the final climb before the Pfeishütte can only be ridden by very experienced bikers. Otherwise, this section must be pushed — but the scenery makes it well worth the effort.

The rustic Pfeishütte is a wonderful place to stop for refreshments or stay overnight. The hut is also a starting point for numerous mountain tours, such as routes across the Nordkette towards Innsbruck.

The return follows the same route back to the starting point.
