Long-distance hike Eagle Walk Stage 22: Memminger Hütte - Ansbacher Hütte

Zams / Lechtal Alps
Difficulty ratings: difficult
Route length: 10.0 km
Duration: 6:00 h

Choose tour stage:

Ravines, crevasses, scree cirques and steep meadow flanks - none of this sounds like a walk in the park, nor is it. We listen to ourselves, check the weather and know from the last 21 stages: We can do it! Not least because Tyrol rewards us with an overwhelming panorama. And despite all the hardship, we can indulge in Tyrolean delicacies without restraint: Gröstl. dumplings. Doughnuts.

Tour character

Difficult stage on black mountain paths. Sure-footedness, a head for heights and alpine experience required, especially for the ascent to the Grießlscharte. This is via a kind of steep chimney (secured by ropes). Very slippery in wet conditions due to the earth. Snow fields have to be crossed, steep meadow flanks and scree slopes have to be negotiated. Very good physical condition required.

Description

Route description: From the Memminger Hütte on a narrow, loamy and, when wet, slippery path, initially directly and soon quite abruptly down over meadow slopes in the direction of Parseiertal. The trail then crosses (meadow) slopes (several times through ravines) and then descends southwest again into the Parseiertal valley (wire ropes in the lower section). This first section is mostly on sloping terrain.

On the other side, the trail climbs moderately steeply at first through sparse forest, then more steeply through meadows. You then reach the Langkar, on the right-hand side of which (in late summer next to the snowfield) the very good trail (hardly any scree) climbs moderately. Later, the route becomes steeper and moves over to the left. Finally through a kind of chimney (secured by ropes) quite steeply and partly on black earth (be careful when wet!) up to the Grießlscharte. Then, with a slight loss of altitude and a short counter-climb, steeply and partly uphill over to the Winterjoch (the Augsburger Höhenweg branches off just below the Winterjoch). From the Winterjoch, descend a short distance over scree, past the Stierkopf and now more rocky up to the Kopfscharte. From the Kopfscharte, the trail crosses the grassy slopes and finally heads south - ascending and descending a little - to the Ansbacher Hütte.

Please note: the Württembergerhaus is closed in 2025 due to renovation work! Alternative overnight accommodation: Memminger Hütte or Steinseehütte
